Website Advice to Future Students in Multimedia Applications

Now that I’m finished with my website about MyMackinac, I wanted to write a little advice for future Multimedia Application students, or for anyone who is thinking about making a website. Good luck!

Three Pieces of Advice I Find Important:

  1. I would actually recommend making your sitemap early on in your design process because it will give you a format/checklist of what you want your site to look like and how it will be laid out. Once you complete a page/post you can link to it on the sitemap and complete your website more efficiently.
  2. If you’re doing a website on travel to a specific place, reach out to the tourism bureau there or other locations you know you’ll need pictures of to get permission to use or have access to some of their photographs. It will make citing everything and finding quality pictures much easier.
  3. Make sure you know how things like pictures or text will fit with your theme – my website has a theme that works with my topic but I don’t love the way the text and the pictures are formatted. By the time I realized how everything looked in the browsing version NOT the editing version, I tried my best to make it look neat, but it could have grouped better with a different theme.
